East Jerusalem, 2023

A geopolitical tour of East Jerusalem, run by Ir Amim, meaning “City of Nations.”

Ir Amim, Hebrew for City of Nations, is an Israeli organization founded in 2000 that focuses on Jerusalem within the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Its mission is to render the city more equitable and sustainable for the Israelis and Palestinians who share it. It does this through monitoring, reporting, public and legal advocacy, and educational tours.

These photographs are from United/Divided, a geopolitical tour of East Jerusalem run by Ir Amim. The tour visits Beit Safafa, Jabal al-Mukaber, Silwan, Mount Scopus, and viewpoints overlooking the Palestinian neighborhoods cut off from the rest of the city by the separation barrier. About one third of Jerusalem's residents live in these neighborhoods.
